There’s a new bread in town and it’s the best thing IN sliced bread!.
Thompson’s Pies are famous for our pies, but did you know we have a new bread range?
You may even recognize the name – do you remember Pro-Rol?
You can choose from Pro-Rol white sandwich, Pro-Rol white toast, Pro-Rol wholemeal and Pro-Rol multigrain.
Ask your local corner-store, shop or servo if they sell Pro-Rol bread and let your taste buds decide!
Pro-Rol History
The first loaf of Pro-Rol bread was baked in Belmont by Colin Thompson in 1952.
After Colin passed away in 1966, his son Dennis took over the bakery and his brother Errol joined him a few years later as the business continued to grow.
Pro-Rol became a household name and staple in the Newcastle, Hunter and Port Stephens areas and at its peak was baking over 300,000 loaves per week.
In 1979 Dennis and Errol decided to sell the business but continued to work for the new owners until they both retired.
Fast forward to 40 years later (2019), and Pro-Rol is back and being baked out of the Thompson’s Gateshead bakery!
